Exchange programme. Trip to England, November 2009

The aeroplane landed in London at London Stanted Airport. First we went to the school where we were going to spend some of our stay. The school was impressive.
The families that would receive us in their houses were there to welcome us, they were waiting for us. They were very nice!
The students who didn’t have a family to stay with went to the hotel in a family’s car.
The second day, everybody went to the school; “King Edward Grammar School”. We had breakfast there and later we met our partners. We were with them in their class. When the lessons finished, we went to the shopping centre in Chelmsford. There were two shopping centres all together! Finally, we ate in an Italian restaurant and we went to sleep.
On the 7th of November, we went to London by train. When we arrived there, we walked and we got into the underground. When we got out of the underground, the first thing that we saw was The London Eye. It was very very big!
Then, we walked to Big Ben and took some photos there. After that, we went to Coven Garden Street and got into the “Market”. We ate there and finally, we went to Hide Park, a huge park.
When we arrived in Chelmsford, we went to the cinema. I saw “The Man who Stared the Goats”, and other guys saw “This is it”, Michael Jackson’s film.
On Sunday, we spent all day with our families and we were with the teachers in the village centre.
On Monday, we went to school. We stayed with our partners and we met more people.
On Tuesday we went to Cambridge. I liked it so much because the universities are immense! On that day, a Spanish guide was with us. She showed us all the important places in the city. We saw several colleges, universities and churches.
The next day we were at school for two hours and later we went to a close village to play tennis. It was fun because the man who was with us was very nice.
At four we went to a shopping centre in Chelmsford again.
On Thursday, we went back to London. That day we saw Buckingham Palace, but we didn’t see Queen Elisabeth!
Later, we went to Oxford Street and we spent a lot of time there.
On Friday, we went to school and we met the English Students. When we finished the lessons, we went to ice-skate.
On Saturday, we went to Colchester by train, an English guide was with us that day. We saw the village and a Roman theatre.
The day of the arrival in Spain: It was a sad day, because we loved England. We went to London Stanted Airport by bus and we got to the plane at a quarter to twelve.
The travel was fantastic and I will do another travel the same as this one, with all the people!

MY HALLOWEEN

Every year me and my family celebrate Halloween. Between the 20th of October and the 31st of October we shop around for Halloween costumes. We always look great and we are different people every year. This year I was dressed as a very pale woman. I had cuts and scars all over my body and face with black and grey hair with a long white dress. It loooked cool. On Halloween my parents take me and my siblings out trick or treating. We get lots of sweets and money. I think I´m a bit too old for it now, but I love going out with my family. After a little while we go home and finish the decorating. Every Halloween we have a Halloween party. Our house always looks like a haunted mansion. Even the bathroom is decorated. We change the doorbell and whenever it rings it makes everyone jump. It´s always a really fun night.

The Difference

A school in Miami, a school in Spain, there is a difference. In Miami we have something called block schedule, also known as periods. We have three classes per day and in total its six classes. One day you might have 2, 4, 6 and another day it can be 1, 3, and 5. The first day of school you go to every class to meet your teachers, and then you are divided into the six periods. There, in Miami, you have advanced classes known as the Honor Students but then you also have the A.P classes for even more advanced students. A.P classes are classes from the University for students who have higher learning and students whose teachers think they are ready for those courses. In Miami to graduate you need three things: One is to get 24 credits, two is to pass a national test called the FCAT, last but not least to pass all your classes. You get the 24 credits by every class you take and pass, every class is worth different credits. One class can give you 0, 5 and another can give you 1 credit it all depends on the class. Not everyone passes the FCAT, but to graduate you must pass it. If you don’t pass the FCAT, even if you’re the best student in your school with a scholarship awaiting you, you won’t get your high school diploma. The schools in Miami serve breakfast and lunch, here in Spain you have a snack and when you get home you eat your lunch. I went to a school where playing a varsity sport is everything? It can be Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Swimming, Water polo, you name it you have it. If you didn’t play in a sport you would join a club. Well you aren’t forced to join either a sport or a club but it would look good when you graduate from high school and the universities start looking at you, to see if you are worth being in the school. You have any kind of club like Space Club, Art Club, Medicine, fashion, and the list just keeps going and going. We have bi-lingual schools; well every school is bi-lingual. If you don’t know English you take your classes in Spanish and you take ESOL classes helping you learn English. Here in Spain is different. You don’t eat lunch here, classes are different you have no electives. In Miami you had an elective for every taste. Music classes, Art classes, Phys.Ed, Technology, Auto Shop, Wood Shop and the electives just keep on going. Here you can’t even pick your classes, you pick the level you want and that’s it. The times over there were form 7:15am ´till 2:30 pm and over here it’s from 8:30am ´till 2:45pm. But if you played a sport or were joined in a club you would usually finish your day at school around 6pm or 6:30pm, because of practices and meetings. Here in the ¨Institute¨

For 4ºEso you have to buy your own books, and everyone pays for every photocopy you need and make. Your teachers don’t do them for you, you are responsible for them, and you pay for your work. In Miami you get your book free of cost, unless if you loose them, and you return them at the end of the school year, except for the work books. The methods of teaching are different, our schools are different, but we all learn the same thing just in different ways.

Christmas is a time when we get out our trees from the ottic a long with the decorations, spend quality time with close ones and enjoy the christmas spirit.In England, families put up their christmas treesand decorate their homes with fairy lights, balls, tinsel and small Father Christmas.Houses and homes are filled with love and warmath. People buy presents up until the last days. Then, on the 24^th,once the children have left a carrot, a glass of sherry and a few mince pies out for Santa Claus, they are off to bed while they are sleeping, parents finish wrapping up the presents and place them under their tree. They also nibble the food left out and drink the glass of sherry so that the children believe that Father Christmas has really come. Young children, normally wake up very early to open their presents . So in the morning, kids aswell as adults start tearing at the wrapping paper and opening gifts. Later on, other family members start to arrive, with more gifts, and everyone sits down to eat a huge Sunday dinner, with all the trimmings while listening to Christmas carols. Once everybody is stuffed, they sit and watch TV, normally on the television there are very old films, a lot of them sad ones and typical comedy shows are also on the TV.

But today, this is the meaning of Christmas, presents nobody really remembers the birth of Jesus, no family valves and neither do we remember about the people less fortunate than ourselves.

Santa Claus, whose real name Saint Nicholas due to the fact that he raelly did exist , and wasquite a wealthy man who round his village on the 25^th of December in the early hours in the morning, leaving presents on doorsteps of those fortunate than him. He did this art until he was too old to carry on.

I believe that we should recieve presents but I also think that the ones who can’t afford food , nor a roof over their heads deserve a warm place to stay, a hot plate of food and a comfy bed to sleep in. I hope that this Christmas be a great one for everybody.

This nice composition was written by one of my students after explaining some “writing tips” in class. It took her no longer than ten minutes to do it.
If you read it, you’ll find a short and clear introduction, the main paragraph, with information, details and opinions, and a conclusion:

Nowadays, tattoos are seen very often drawn on people’s bodies, with different shapes and meanings. Getting a tattoo could be a risk since it’s a permanent drawing, unless you get it removed with laser, but this takes a lot of time and money. It could also be quite dangerous if it’s not done with cleaned machines. Even though it has more negative than positive aspects, in my opinion they are nice and attractive and the people who get something tattooed on them tend to be sure enough that they won’t regret it, since it’s usually something meaningful. Therefore I’m in favour of them.

The max Robot can clean the floor, clean carpets, clean windows, wash clothes and it can clean dust. It can’t wash the car, it can’t paint the house or cook and it can’t sing. The price is 50000€

Advantages: easy to use, it’s fast and it has a low maintenance

Disadvantages: Price 50.000€ and it makes much noise.

The Superclean Robot: Mum-Robot

The Mum-Robot is very cheap, and it cleans the windows. It can write e-mails. It can’t open the fridge, but it can cook, it can clean the sofa and rooms. It can read but it can’t swim and it can’t fly. It can talk to people.

It’s very modern and it’s price is 500€

Advantages :) Cheap price

Disadvantages : ( Difficult to use.
